Dungloe Gaa Club has the honor this June of being a host club for the All Ireland Hurling Feile.

The Feile is an under 14 hurling club competition comprised of teams from all over the island of Ireland.

The competition is one with a long prestigious history and is often the viewing point where young potential inter county stars are first noticed.

The competition is a club competition and each county provides a certain number of clubs usually through their own internal County competition.

Dungloe club competed in the Donegal County feile and finished joint third and are also a host club for the tournament.

Host clubs are clubs who agree to make arrangements to welcome and accommodate one visiting team.

In Dungloes case we are hosting a very traditional team from limerick city; South liberties CLG whose panel of 24 players are being received and welcomed by the club and who will stay with host families for the Feile weekend.

The weekend commences on Friday June 20th and ends Sunday June 22nd and Dungloe will have the South liberties club, team mentors, parents and entourage for that time.

It is a great honor for the club and a welcome boost to the town in that while the players are accommodated by host families, the adults and mentors, supporters will rent local houses and B &B’s.

The limerick hurlers will arrive on Friday afternoon the 20th June and will later that evening play Dungloe U14s in the Rosses Park provisionally at 6pm and which game will be followed by a welcome reception in the new Dungloe clubhouse.

The following Saturday both teams travel to Dungiven in Derry to compete against other teams in their group and it should be noted that Dungloe will also play teams from Clare, Waterford, Westmeath & Derry.

Dungloe and South liberties will return to Dungloe that afternoon and the players will again stay with the host families with the club arranging some activities for the boys that evening.

Sunday is then the finals day and should Dungloe or South liberties progress to that stage they will travel again to Dungiven to try and bring glory home.

The Dungloe U14s have performed very well this year and comprise some experienced hurlers and some new boys.

They have taken some big scalps during the year having beaten Burt, Letterkenny Gaels, Setanta and Carndonagh and they deserve the opportunity of a big stage.

They are also Dungloe’s most senior hurlers and therefore the team that younger players watch and admire.

We hope that as many people as possible will support Dungloe Gaa in their organization and participation in the feile and throw their weight behind the weekend, be it as a helper, supporter or spectator.

Congratulations to Roshine NS as winners of the Donegal small schools hurling competition. They travelled to O’Donnell park to compete in the county senior national schools comp.

Roshine were competing with schools from Illistron, Woodlands, Colmcille, and Gaelscoil with pupils of 400/500.

The standard of hurling was very high with a large number of prominent county club players on display.

Roshine started shakily against woodlands but a goal by Damian McGowan snatched a late victory for Roshine.

They then played Illistron and were much improved and winning by a comfortable margin.

There next game against Gaels was tough and hard fought but a great individual point by James Hartnett was enough to deal victory.

Roshine then qualified to meet Colmcille coached by Rory Kavanagh, with a population of 550, 96 6th class boys and winners the last three years in a row.

The final was brilliant with great hurling by both sides and Roshine taking an early lead which they managed to keep through the game and running out two point winners.

This was an incredible victory, the first time a small school has won this competition and Roshine are now indisputably the champions of all National Schools in Donegal.

Well done to Jack Walsh, Gerard Glackin, Evan Forker, Evan McFadden, Conor Hunter, Ryan Brennan, Odhran McGonagle, Philip Noble, Neil Noble, Michael McNulty, James Hartnett, Brendan Boyle and Damian McGowan.

Thanks to Master Gillespie and Mary Gillespie for facilitating the development of hurling in the school over the last 6 years and to Adie Gaffey coach who assisted coaching over the last year.

This is a very significant achievement for Roshine NS and Rosses Hurling and well done again to all the lads.

Well done to our County Minor team players of Danny, Adam, John & Christian who defeated Derry in the 1st round of the Ulster Championship.

Danny pulling of some top class saves, as only Danny can.

The Club is very proud of you all.
