IRELAND’S FASTEST DRIVER CAUGHT IN DONEGAL

gardaspeed-checkpoint-operation-slowdown-2-230x150Ireland’s fastest driver caught during a major crackdown on speeding was detected in Donegal, Gardai have revealed.

During Operation Slowdown –  the 24-hour crackdown on speeding drivers which took place from 7.00am yesterday to 7.00am this morning – 124,818 vehicles were checked throughout the Republic, 974 of which were detected speeding.

The highest speed recorded was 147kph in a 80kph on the R238 road at Lisfannon outside Buncrana.

Gardai also detected:

90 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the N11 at Stillorgan Dublin Dublin

91km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the N52 at Woodfield Birr Offaly

78km/h in a 50 km/h zone on the N59 at Bushy Park Galway Galway

76 in a 50 on the N20 at Creggane Buttevant Cork

74 in a 50 on the R742 at Ballinatray Lower Courtown Wexford

Assistant Commissioner John Twomey, the head of Garda Traffic, said: “We would like to thank all those motorists who complied with the law and remind road users that Gardaí will continue to rigerously enforce road traffic legislation”.
