soccer-ballDrumkeen welcomed Fanad to St Patrick’s Park on Saturday in the USL reserve league on a perfect day for football.

The early minutes were scrappy enough with most of the play in the middle of the park and neither keeper had a save to make.

Fanad should have taken the lead on fifteen minutes when a Conor Blaney free was headed onto the bar and bounced down on the line and Paul Mc Auley was able to deal with it.

Drumkeen took the lead on 20 minutes when Richie Moore finished neatly from ten yards after a pass from Liam McGill out on the right wing.

Dean McCarry then shot wide for Fanad at the other end.

The home team doubled their advantage shortly after….Peter Mc Namee worked hard to win the ball and gave it to Jerome Duffy who scored a lovely goal out wide on the right,Peter McNamee then volleyed home a Liam Mc Giill cross to make it three …Drumkeen then lost Mc Gill through injury to be replaced Kevin Bonner who joined his brothers Paul and Gerard on the pitch and it is believed that it was the first time three brothers have played in a competitive game for Drumkeen.

As the first half drew to a close Peter Mc Namee of Drumkeen and Conor Blaney of Fanad both Had efforts that went wide .,Fanad pulled a goal back right at the start of the second half when Keelan Mc Elwaine lobbed the ball over the advancing paul Mcauley for a lovely goal.Drumkeen killed the game off shortly after when,Peter Mc Namee’s corner was headed back to Richie Moore by Jerome Duffy and Moore made no mistake with the finish to grab his second of the game. Fanad kept at it and had a few efforts through Connor Matthewson who had a long range effort that went wide and Keelan Mc Eleftwaine who headed over the bar with a few minutes left. There were plenty of good young players on both sides and all five goals were of a very high quality.and this game was a good advert for the Ulster senior reserve league.
