A young Letterkenny man was surrounded by family and friends as he was ordained into the priesthood yesterday.

Rev Stephen Gorman, 27, was ordained at St Eunan’s Cathedral by Dr Philip Boyce, Bishop of Raphoe.

Stephen was accompanied by his mother Monica, brothers Mark, Seamus, Sammy, Patrick and John Paul and sisters Louise and Christina.

Stephen’s father Seamus passed away in 2001.

Also at yesterday’s ordination was the former Bishop of Raphoe, Seamus Hegarty.

Stephen, a former bank official whose family hail from Drumnahoagh, Letterkenny, will celebrate his first mass at the Church of the Irish Martyrs this evening at 7pm.
