ALL ROADS LEAD TO ST JOHNSTON THIS TUESDAY FOR ANNUAL 5K

The Donegal Grand Prix rolls towards the banks of the Foyle next week when the annual St Johnston/Carrigans 5K Road Race and Walk takes place on Tuesday evening 8th July with a start time of 7.30pm.St Johnston 5K 2014

This race was only added to the race circuit a few short years ago and already, it has been established as one of the favoured routes in the county.

The race is also ideally located for Derry based athletes and clubs who have consistently been strong supporters of the event. When fast, flat courses are being trumpeted, there’s no better advertisement for such claims than this race on Tuesday evening.

Starting in St. Johnston, the race weaves its way along the banks of the picturesque Foyle river towards Carrigans and follows a perfect 5K loop back to the race start/finish point.

In February, a 5K along the same route attracted a huge field of over 350 runners and walkers, while a race held by the local Kildrum Tigers FC a few weeks ago also attracted big numbers.

When initially started, this race (and others) was about bringing road running into the heart of the communities from which the Lifford club draws its loyal member base as well as giving locals the opportunity to participate close to home. This race is being organised yet again by the Lifford Athletic Club, which brings its own professionalism and expertise to race management and organisation.

Lifford AC has been consistently striving for the best possible race experience for participants and yet again, there will be prizes for Seniors and Juniors as well as Masters categories for 35,40,45,50,55,60 for both men and women and spot prizes for all race participants.

Chip timing will be an added feature yet again this year, along with First Aid, mid and post race water stations and post race refreshments. A fast course, the route has been Jones Counter measured and certified for accuracy as well as holding an Athletics Ireland permit.

With the country enjoying a running boom at present and Fit 4 Life and Couch to 5K groups springing up everywhere, the numbers taking part next week are expected to swell even further.

If you haven’t tried one before or just want to come along and walk, bring the children, etc, everyone is welcome. Participants are encouraged to pre enter on liffordac.com and arrive early on the race evening. Registration on the evening and number/chip collection will be at the St. Johnston/Carrigans Resource Centre from 6pm and will close at 7.15pm, the race starting at 7.30pm sharp.
