In the Senior League Division 2 Round 15 in Pairc Na nDunaibh at 8:00 p.m. last Thursday evening 10th July.

Gaeil Fhánada started strongly and dominated the home side from the start. Kevin ‘Cookie’ Gallagher’s team starting strongly registering their first point with their opening attack after Kevin Bear McElwaine received a pass from Davitt Walsh and shot it over the bar. Downings went into defense mode and drew level in the sixth minute after a foul on Oisin Boyce. Mark & Seimi ‘Nanny’ Friel worked together ending in Mark scoring a fine point. Seimi went on to score two more frees with his brother Johnny ‘Nanny’ Friel scoring a fine point to increase their lead. Seimi added another free to Fanad’s tally before Davitt Walsh kicked a high point in the 28th minute. Downings closed the first half by scoring from their second free. Fanad ended the first half in the good enough position of 0:07 to 0:02 after enjoying the majority of possession. Downings opened the scoring in the second half after one of their players was fouled. Seimi ‘Nanny’scored a fine free from play in the 37th minute then fired home a free from 40metres out after a Downings player over carried the ball. Downings came back with a free to reduce the deficit to five points. Sub Brian ‘Teddy’ McVeigh ran at the Downings defence before passing inside to Oisin Shiels, who quickly offloaded to the unmarked captain Mark ‘Nanny’ Friel who came back to score the only goal of the game. Oisin Shiels floated over a superb effort off his left foot two minutes later. Downings added another free to their tally before ‘Teddy’ got on the end of a good Fanad move in the 60th minute to slot over. Downings Oisin Boyce got their only point from play in the last kick of the game.
