The Gola Guide & Swim Challenge 2014 will take place on Sunday 27th July 2014.
It will see a bit of a buzz around Gola as individuals are invited to explore the beautiful island and join Pól Ó Muireasáin and friends as they give a brief overview of the Islands history and provide a demonstration on the culinary delights found locally by sea foraging.
At 3 o Clock the visitors will wave goodbye to a group of swimmers who will take on the challenge of completing the 1.2 mile open water swim back to the mainland (conditions permitting) and in turn raise some much needed funds for The Life Boat.
The swimmers, who have been in training for this event, will be accompanied by The Coast Guard and aim to be at their planned destination – Maragallon Pier in and around 4 o Clock.
This swim is not organised by a club and only competent swimmers who have demonstrated their ability at one or more of the training sessions will be permitted to be a part of this group on the day.
Silkie Sailing will provide transportation to the Island on the day with the first rib boat leaving the new pier in Magheragallan at one o clock.
Additional runs to the island will be made as and when needed with the last boat leaving for the Island at 3 o Clock and last boat returning from the island at 4 o clock.
Please come along to show your support for The LifeBoats and welcome the swimmers back to the mainland.
We are planning to have some fun on the mainland too with Curragh racing, Kayaking and picnic on the beach on their return. Fingers crossed that the weather is good.
