GARDAÍ were forced to use pepper spray to restrain a man who was so drunk he left women and children terrified.
Shaun Boyle, who is 33, appeared before Letterkenny District Court on charges of being intoxicated in a public place.
That place was outside Gallagher’s Hotel in the town two weeks ago – on July 3 – at 6.30pm. He was also charged with failing to follow the direction of a Garda.
The court heard Gardaí were called to the area because of complaints about Boyle’s behaviour.
He began issuing threats that he had dealings with Gardaí before and he would “deal with yous again.”
He called officers w******.
Boyle, from Apartment 5, 18 Lower Main Street, Letterkenny, ran off to escape arrest and was so violent in resisting arrest Gda Garrett Monaghan had to use pepper spray to restrain him. He has 22 previous convictions.
Judge Paul Kelly noted that Boyle had appeared before him just four weeks ago and was given Community Service.
Defence solicitor Frank Dorrian said Boyle was determined to end his addiction to drink and was now in the care of his parents and wanted to get proper treatment.
“A fortnight before this incident he was before me. His options are closing down,” said Judge Kelly.
He agreed that a probation report was needed so adjourned the case until September 18 to allow for the report and a report on Boyle’s progress on dealing with his drinking issues.
