Seamus Coleman will miss Everton’s trip to Thailand as a precaution after feeling his hamstring in a friendly against Tranmere.

The full-back was withdrawn during the second period having only come on at half-time at Prenton Park on Tuesday.

Everton are boosted by Ross Barkley’s return as they travel to Bangkok on Thursday – with a game against Leicester on Sunday.

But Coleman will remain on Merseyside and will be joined by Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo.

Martinez explained that the latter pair’s time would be best spent continuing to work towards their respective returns to action.

The Everton manager told evertontv: “We assessed Seamus’ injury this morning.

“He will miss the Thailand trip to give proper consideration to his injury, for proper treatment and to remove any chance of aggravating that feeling that he had.

“We don’t really know the extent of the injury yet but it is sometimes a little bit of a setback that comes with pre-season preparation and getting a lot of volume into the bodies. Hopefully it is going to be just a minor setback.”
