Finn Harps said goodbye to any chance of promotion last night albeit it in terrific fashion against Wexford Youths.

Kevin McHugh scored but also missed penalty for Harps.

Kevin McHugh scored but also missed penalty for Harps.

The Ballybofey side twice threw away the lead and missed a penalty in what was a terrific game at Finn Park.

Josh Mailey put Harps in front but Ben Ryan equalised for Wexford in the 15th minute minute.

The evergreen Kevin McHugh put Harps in front again after an hour but he missed a chance to seal the points when he blasted wide from the penalty spot a short time later.

McHugh’s miss was punished by Wexford who snatched a draw when they did what Harps couldn’t do by converting form the penalty spot.

Both sides had chances to win the game at the death but it finished 2-2.

For Harps it was their 11th draw of the season and promotion seems a dream at this stage.
