Mullingar was the venue for the Caroline Kearney Memorial Olympic Triathlon last weekend.

There was a turn out of nearly 400 triathletes to this national series event and nine Letterkenny members entered.

The performance of the day was from Gavin Crawford who finished 29th in a time of 2.10.19 which was all the more noteworthy in that he won the Defence forces sprint triathlon the previous day in a time of 1.05.37 blowing away the field with a 17 minute 5k.

There were two first time Olympic participants in Tommy Hill and Martin Donnelly and both performed exceptionally well.

The only downside to the whole event was the fact that Lisa Dalton who was second female out of the water in a great swim time took ill and could not complete the race.

In Wicklow Paul Doherty took part in the Wicklow Olympic Distance triathlon on a very hilly course.

In Derry at the weekend Paddy Bond swam well in the Legenderry swim. Margaret Kelly and Pauric Kelly took part in the Ulster 10 mile time trial on Sunday and both featured well in difficult conditions in Toome, Co.Antrim.

In Lifford at the 10k road race also on Sunday, six members made the journey over to the cross border road race with all performing well.

Training continues as follows

Monday lake swim Gartan 6.30 pm

Tuesday Track session Aura 7.45 pm

Wednesday pool swim Aura 8.00 pm

Thursday brick/tt Foxhall 7.00 p.m
