MAJOR RESCUE OPERATION SPARKED AS MAN FALLS INTO SEA AT FANAD LIGHTHOUSE

BREAKING NEWS: A major rescue operation is underway at Fanad Lighthouse after a person fell into the sea from nearby rocks.

It is believe they were one of two people taking photographs when they lost their footing and fell into the water.

It is understood the incident happened just after 3pm.

Two lifeboats from the Lough Swilly RNLI based at Buncrana have rushed to the scene.

The Rescue 118 helicopter has also ben dispatched from its base in Sligo.

At the moment the rescue services have a visual on the casualty but they can access him because of heavy waves against the shore.

A spokesman for the RNLI has said everything is being done to get access to the casualty.
