Lagan got their season off to a good start when they overcame local rivals Drumoghill in a closely fought contest. Lagan opened the scoring on eight minutes when Kevin Kelly found the bottom corner of the net with a thirty yard free. Drumoghill equalised on thirty minutes when Lagan failed to deal with a John Sweeney corner and Carlos Rodgers forced the ball home. Drumoghill took the lead right on half time with a near carbon copy goal. This time Pajo Rafferty forced home John Sweeney’s corner. Lagan equalised on fifty seven minutes with Stephen O’Donnell scoring a stunning goal from forty yards out wide on the touchline. Lagan got the winner on eighty three minutes when a Drumoghill defender was adjudged to have handled a long bouncing clearance from Tony Blake. Stephen O’Donnell tucked the penalty away with aplomb. Drumoghill almost grabbed an equaliser on fulltime but Tony Blake reacted well to push Richie Moore’s shot over the bar. In a well contested game Kevin Kelly, Glen Gallagher and Paul Rodgers were Lagan’s best. For Drumoghill David O’Carroll, Richie Moore and Pajo Rafferty were best. Referee: Paddy Duffy.

On Friday night last in Cappry Park Cappry opened the scoring in the sixteenth minute when Patrick Mc Nulty latched onto a ball from Kyle Lafferty to drill to the net from close range. Kyle Lafferty scored Cappry’s second goal on the half hour mark with a shot following a corner. Cappry got their third goal in the fifty second minute from the penalty spot by Darren O’ Leary. Letterbarrow created a few chances but to no avail. Patrick Mc Nulty got his second and Cappry’s fourth goal in the seventy first minute from a header following a corner.
Patrick Mc Nulty, and Darren O’ Leary were best for Cappry. Referee Con Mc Laughlin.
Eany Celtic 3 Donegal Town 3
(Donegal won 4-3 on penalties)
A spirited performance from a young Eany Celtic side wasn’t sufficient to see off a more seasoned Donegal Town team in this Brian McCormack Cup tie. After a lively opening first quarter Eany striker Shaun Griffin was brought down inside the box. James Flynn stepped up and slotted home the penalty to put the home side into the lead. On the half hour the Town were awarded a penalty when Declan Brown was taken down. Ciaran O’ Reilly put the visitors back on level terms. Declan Brown put Donegal Town ahead when he found space in the box and David Bustard extended their lead just on the break. Conor Burke and Shaun Griffin were on target to force extra time. No further goals meant the game went to a penalty shoot-out and Donegal Town came through by four goals to three.
St. Catherines 3 Dunkineely Celtic 0
St. Catherines overcame near neighbours Dunkineely Celtic at Emerald Park on Sunday afternoon to progress to the Area semi-final of the Brian Mc Cormick Cup. Despite having a slight edge throughout it took until the sixtieth minute for St. Catherines to break the deadlock, Gary Cunningham heading home from a corner. Shane O’ Rourke extended that lead on seventy five minutes and Brian Smith completed the scoring with a minute remaining. O’Rourke for Catherines and Murrin for Dunkineely were the best on show.
Gweedore Area
Gweedore Celtic 1 Glenree United 1
(Glenree won 3-1 on penalties)
Glenree will meet Glenea in the semi-final of the Area Shield after this victory over an understrength Gweedore Celtic. The home team played with the blustery wind in the first half and dominated possession without creating too many clear openings. Declan Doherty had the best chance on twenty minutes but the keeper turned it round the post. Glenree had a good spell at the start of the second half but missed a number of good chances. Gweedore had a gilt edged chance on sixty five minutes when they were awarded a penalty but Declan Doherty’s shot was saved by the keeper. Five minutes into extra time Joe Bonner put the home team ahead when he volleyed home a Colin Ferry cross. Two minutes from the end of extra-time Glenree drew level when a corner kick wasn’t dealt with by the home defence and the ball ended up in the back of the net. Best for Gweedore were Brendan Devine and Paul Rua McBride.

Gweedore United 7 Dunlewy Celtic 2
This game was played in windy conditions in Gweedore saw the home side take a convincing victory in this local derby. United with the advantage of the wind in the opening half pressed from the start and took the lead after 5 minutes when John Mc Fadden beat two defenders and shot into the top right corner leaving Hugo Cannon with no chance. In the 11th minute the home side doubled their advantage with Ciaran Mc Fadden getting his first with a good shot from 18 yards. In the 38th minute Eoin Doohan made it 3-0 for United with an excellent shot from 25 yards. In the second half the home side went four up in the 52 minute when Ciaran Mc Fadden got his second with a good shot after good work by John Mc Fadden. In the 60th minute United went five up and it was Ciaran Mac Fadden on the mark once again. Shane O’ Donnell made it 6-0 in the 72 minute. Dunlewey pulled two goals back in the 73rd and 78th minute through Kit Regan and Brendan Mc Geady. In the 83rd minute Ciaran Mc Fadden got his forth to make it 7-2. Referee: Ed Moore.
Lifford Area
Lifford Celtic 2 Kildrum Tigers 0
Played in blustery conditions at Greenbrae Lifford came out on top in this local derby. The game was a close encounter for the 90 minutes. Lifford hit the front on the half hour mark following a Gary Mc Girr free kick giving Glen Bovaird no chance in the Kildrum goal. Lifford went further ahead as Mark Neeson hit the net from 40 yards catching the keeper out of his area. Both teams finished with 10 men as Johnny Mc Ginty and Gary Mc Girr both seen red following a scuffle. Best for Lifford Jack Mahon, best for Kildrum was Packie Coll.
Ballybofey United 2 Deele Harps 1
With the club making great strides off the field lately Ballybofey United took the field against Deele Harps hoping to progress to the next round of the Brian Mc Cormick Cup. That they did, gaining victory from an openly contested match. Cathal Mc Gowan put Deele in front before Christopher Darby equalised for the home side. Conor Doherty came off the bench in the second half to provide the pass for Mark Griffin to latch onto and score the match winning goal. Referee: Brian O’ Kane
Curragh Athletic 5 Convoy Arsenal 6
Curragh’s young guns gave a very good account of themselves only losing out by a single goal. Young Tim Scanlon put them one up on nine minutes, only for Ronnie Carlin to level on twenty five minutes before Gary Brolly put the home team in front on thirty five minutes. Conor Gallagher scored the first of his hat-trick to leave the scores all square at the break. The second half was even more entertaining with Lee Guthrie, Gary Brolly and Mickey Melaugh (2) scoring for the home side and Shay Hannigan and Conor Gallagher (2) netting for Curragh. Good team efforts by both teams with Curragh’s young players excelling especially man of the match young Conor Gallagher. Referee Paddy Melaugh.
Castlefin Celtic 3 Raphoe Town 1
In windy playing conditions it was an entertaining cup game at Park View. A quick start from Raphoe saw them take the lead after two minutes, Reece Laird scoring from close range. Raphoe’s lead didn’t last long as Damien Mc Anenny found the equaliser for Castlefin eight minutes later. JP Malley gave Castlefin the lead, after good work from Michael Dunnion and Damien Mc Anenny found Malley who finished into the top corner on fifteen minutes. Castlefin got their 3rd goal ten minutes from the end when JP Malley rounded the Raphoe keeper to tap home from two yards. Referee: John Coyle Best for Castlefin: Anthony White and JP Malley
