Tir Chonaill Gaels PicTir Chonaill Gaels Club Notes:

Seniors:

Last Sunday our senior team reached the championship final for the third year in succession after a hard earned victory over St Kiernans.

Played in difficult conditions with a blustery wind throughout the game the Kiernans had the advantage in the opening half and went in at the break leading by 1-6 to 1-4.

A Benny O’Reilly goal in the later stages of the half kept us in touch in what was never going to be an easy game.

Cathal Magee who had a quiet half for his standards came to the fore in the 2nd half scoring the opening four points to edge us in front, still the Kiernans refused to throw in the towel until midway through the half a converted penalty from Magee opened up daylight between the sides.

The introduction of five sides in the final 15 minutes showed our strength in depth with Cathal O’Neill scoring another goal to cap a fine effort.

Best on the day were Marty McCoy, Mark Gottsche, Johnny McNicholas, Joe Feeney and Cathal Magee. Final score TCG 3-13, St Kiernans 1-10.

Scorers, C Magee1P-5, B O’Reilly 1-1, J Feeney 0-3, J McNicholas 0-3, C O’Neill 1-0 & M McCoy 0-1:

Juniors:

The junior team live to fight another day after coming from 3 points down in the final 7 minutes to draw against Thomas McCurtains in last Sunday’s semi final.

Not at their best the young guns showed great determination to battle back when we looked to be heading for the exit door.

Again a strong wind with a few showers made playing conditions difficult and scoring opportunities few as both teams battled to get a stronghold on the game.

Best on the day were Jack Elliot, Patrick O’Connor and Ryan Elliot. Final score TCG 1-7 Thomas McCurtains 1-7: Scorers, Kevin Browne 1-4f, Ryan Elliot 0-2 & Tommy Moriarty 0-1:

Fixtures:

On Saturday the juniors will play in the Championship semi final replay against Thomas McCurtains at Ruislip with a 3pm throw-in.(Extra time to be played if required)

All support much appreciated for this vital match.

Wedding Belles:

This Saturday long serving club stalwart JP O’Donnell ties the knot with fiancée Paula Reid in County Clare, a large number of club members are travelling back for the big day.

All players, members and staff at the club pass on our best wishes to the happy couple and wish them all the best for the future.

Return of the Legends:

At last Sunday’s championship match in Ruislip, club members had the pleasure to meet up with two of our former greats, ex player Timmy McBride (Dungloe) and former manager Tommy McFadden (Kilcar) called over to see if we were still keeping up the high standards that they set many years ago.

Great to see you lads and don’t leave it as long the next time.

Vintage Day:

The ever popular London Irish Vintage Day returns to Berkeley Avenue on Sunday 31st August with the convoy leaving Cricklewood at 12 noon and arriving at Greenford 12.45pm.
