Lagan Harps ladies retained the Donegal Women’s League after defeated Fanad United 4-1.

Fanad Utd 1 – 4 Lagan Harps

Lagan travelled to Tri-a-Lough this evening to play Fanad in aentertaining match.

Despite being a player short from the start Lagan went close on 5 mins with a strike by Nakita Burke which was blocked by Eilish Coyle.

On 14 mins Michelle Doherty broke down the left who crossed to Brenda Sweeney making Niamh Mailey work hard to pull of a great save.

Fanad were rewarded for the pressure when a through ball by Karen McElwaine found Tena O’Brien unmarked who fired her shot under Niamh Mailey.

This seemed rattle Lagan and after a corner on the 32 minute Nakita Burke’s cross was headed into the Fanad net by Michelle Kelly.

Lagan thought they took the lead on 38 mins when Amber Barrett hit a thunderous shot but Heather Dougherty made the save of the night pushing the ball out for a corner.

All level at half time, Lagan came out in second half, with full backs SaorlaMcGarrigle and Nadine Crawford pushing forward causing Fanad problems with their pin-point accurate passes.

On 56mins Lagan took the lead with Caroline Gallagher taking on two players before passing to Lauren Harper to score from close range.

Fanad could have got the equalise a few minslater when they broke from a Lagan corner only for KaneshiaMcKinney to clear the pass from Orla McGonigle to Tena O’Brien.

Lagan extended the lead with Amber Barrett firing a shot from 25 yards.

The final goal of the night was scored by Lauren Harper when Nakita Burke slotted the ball into the running Harper who shot into the bottom corner.

The Donegal Women’s League would like to congratulate the Lagan Harps players and management team on winning their third consecutive title.

The league would also like to thank the other teams who participated in the league.

The GlencarInn League was presented by Referee Marty McGarrigle to Caroline Gallagher Captain of Lagan Harps.
