(If you miss it on the night, it will be streamed on The Lyric Feature web page after broadcast:http://www.rte.ie/lyricfm/the-lyric-feature/)

Francis Harvey is known in Ireland and beyond, to those who practice the craft, as a gifted lyric poet, a national treasure who is virtually unknown to the wider reading public.

Shy, reticent and disinclined to give public readings, Harvey’s life in poetry has been lived below the critical radar, despite the extraordinary quality and quantity of his work, published in volumes by Gallery Press and Dedalus Press and in literary journals.

Born in Enniskillen in 1925, a child of two generations of mixed marriages, Harvey has lived his lived most of his life in Donegal, where he worked as a bank official by day and spent his free time wandering the local landscape and honing his craft.

His naturalist’s precision, allied to his lyric gift and his clear-eyed view of his community, has combined to give us an extraordinary body of work. Now in his ninetieth year, this documentary brings Francis Harvey and his poetry to a wider public.”

Tune in to Lyric FM this evening, Friday 5th September @ 7.00 pm
