MAN FINED FOR BEING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF CANNABIS WHILE DRIVING

A Donegal man was fined €250 and banned from driving for being under the influence of cannabis while driving last year.

Inspector John O’Toole told Letterkenny District Court that Damian Campbell, Killynure, Convoy was detected by Garda Patrick Geraghty at Raphoe Demesne on July 4 last year.

Campbell was also banned from driving for a period of four years.

The defendant had charges of possession of drugs and having drugs for sale and supply at Killynure Convoy on the same date, adjourned until September 2015 as long as he co-operated with the Probation Service.

Defence solicitor Kieran Dillon said his client would be a suitable candidate for a community service order

Garda McNally discovered the drugs at the defendant’s home at Killynure, the court heard.

A second charge of having drugs for sale and supply was struck out.

Defence solicitor Kieran Dillon said there had been no accident as a result of his client’s driving.

The 21 year-old was also pleading guilty to all charges.

Judge Paul Kelly made an order for the destruction of the drugs.
