Paul Durcan has revealed that Shay Given sends all the players texts before every Donegal game.

Paul Durcan has revealed that Shay Given sends all the players texts before every Donegal game.

Donegal goalkeeper Paul Durcan has revealed that Shay Given sends all the Donegal players texts, wishing them luck before all their games.

Donegal goalkeeper Paul Duncan is arguably the best goalkeeper in Ireland.

While many GAA pundits regard Cluxton as the best keeper, there are many that hold the Four Masters player in high esteem.

The Donegal mans shot stopping and kick-outs played a massive role in their victory over the Dubs.

Aston Villa and Ireland international keeper Shay Given is one of Durcans idols.

Given dropped into one of McGuinness’s sessions during the year and trained with the team.

Durcan said, “He was a hero of mine when I was growing up and it was a great experience for me.

“He always texts the boys before the games wishing us luck so we know he is behind us.

Durcan still maintains that it’s Stephan Cluxton that sets the standard for a goalkeeper in Ireland, although many believe that Durcan is just as good.

Durcan said ,”I was looking at the stats and his are way above our own.

“It seems that when he sees a man running it is going to his chest.

“He is unbelievable at it. It is a joy to watch, not when you are playing against him though.

“You think you are able to take him on at them but it is hard. If anyone is lazy out the pitch it is on their chest.
