One of Finn Harps most consistent performers grabbed the headlines as the Donegal outfit put a dent in Shelbourne’s promotion hopes with a 3-2 victory at Finn Park.

Influential Harps midfielder Michael Funston scored twice against Shels.

Influential Harps midfielder Michael Funston scored twice against Shels.

Mickey Funston scored twice for the Ballybofey club in what was a good warm-up game for Harps upcoming FAI Cup semi-final.

The Dublin outfit took the lead on the half hour through Gareth Coughlan but Harps Damian McNulty cancelled this out in the 40th minute.

Funston then scored his first and put Harps ahead in the 63rd minute.

Bu Shels refused to give up and drew level when Dylan Connolly slotted home past Conor Wynn in the 70th minute.

It looked like the game was heading for stalemate until Funston popped up in the 87th minute when his shot when in off the post.

Harps received a massive ovation as left the pitch with the team giving it al on the night.

Is a victory over St Pats in Dublin too much to ask?
