Students and Staff in Mulroy College enjoyed a week of promoting Positive Well-being to coincide with World Mental Health Day October 10th.

They marked this occasion with a week of activities celebrating and promoting well-being in the school community.

There was a special emphasis on promoting the “5-a-day” of mental health within the college.

These include: Connect, Take Notice, Give, Keep Learning and Be Active. Some of the actives that took place included; talk and walk to music during the morning registration class .

Teachers discussed well-being with students and explored how each of us can achieve 5-a-day. There was an emphasis on healthy eating and students were encouraged to learn new skills.

A paper tree was placed in the canteen and every student in the college wrote how they felt on a leaf which was later pinned to the tree. During the week students and staff were encouraged to do random acts of kindness.

On Friday students and staff participated in a Blue non-uniform day to promote mental health, each student donated €1 to Jigsaw, an organisation who support young people in Donegal.

As part of the pastoral ethos in the College students regularly engage in positive mental health and well being projects.

Ms Fiona Temple, Mulroy College Principal said “Educating young people about mental health, positive well being and resilience is as important in their development as academics. These approaches along with our ethos of building mutually respectful relationships ensure all members of our school community are valued.”
