Rosses AC

Last Sunday the cross country action was for the Uneven Age groups and Novice races in Castlefinn.

First up was the womens race with Marie Timoney leading her team home closely followed by Ann Harkin, Sinead Boyle, Leigh McGeever, Sonia Lynch, Kelly O’Donnell and Lorna Green. In the mens race Ciaran Mc Gonagle ran a superb race in a big field to win the Donegal Novice Cross Country race. Ciaran becomes the second Rosses athlete to win this race after Kevin O Donnell, Ranafast won it in 1986. He was backed up by strong runs from Noel Diver, Edward Harkin, Eamonn o’Donnell, Darrell Dunleavy and Michael McElroy. Our juveniles put in great performances and huge thanks to all parents and coaches who travelled and supported in good numbers. Fiona Mc Ginley competed and ran a strong race in the Paris 20K on Sunday last also.

Big thanks to Teresa Mc Daid, Letterkenny AC who came in to An Chúirt Hotel on Monday last to talk about goal setting, training programmes, nutrition and recovery as well as Q & A. Teresa is the Athletics Ireland National Endurance Event Co-Ordinator. There was good support for the event and hopefully we will get Teresa to come back to do a specific coaching clinic.

Some upcoming events are: this Saturday October 18, 2014 New Mills 10k – Letterkenny @ 11:00 am. October 27, 2014 @ 9:00 am – AAI Marathon Champioships – Dublin City Marathon. 25th October 12pm – Ulster Juvenile Even Ages – Jordanstown. Sunday 2nd November – Donegal Senior – Stranorlar. 9th November 12pm – Ulster Juvenile Unven Ages & Novice – Killinkere, Co. Cavan.

Sportshall Athletics will start in the gym at RCS, Dungloe after the Halloween break on Monday 3rd November at 6.45 pm for children born 2007 and older.

Cross country training continues for all adults in Mullaghderg every Wednesday and Friday at 6. Club captain Michael Mc Elroy in charge. Senior Ladies training with coach Helen Mc Cready in Mullaghderg Wednesday evenings at 6.

There is a group of athletes training in Gweedore each week which are focus mainly on marathon training towards Dublin but open to anybody in getting some distance training done. This group are meeting Wednesday and Fridays at 7pm at Euroflex, Gweedore Industrial Estate. There are different distances and paces to suit all.
