Minister Joe McHugh has welcomed news of a €25m investment by Randox Teoranta and increase in jobs to over 500 by 2020 in Dungloe.

Minister of State for the Gaeltacht told Donegal Daily a few moments ago: “I am delighted to welcome today’s announcement by Randox Teoranta that they are investing €25m in their Dungloe plant, with the potential of increasing jobs from 66 to 540 by 2020.

“This is a great day for Dungloe and for Donegal.

“I had an opportunity a number of weeks back along with my colleagues in Udarus to see first hand the cutting edge work which is taking place in Dungloe. This was a great insight and I was delighted to meet so many people from my own County working there, including my own parish.

“I would like to commend the dedicated Management Team for their enterprise and energy in driving forward an industry that will be leading and competing on the world stage.

“There is no doubt that this investment by Randox today will have benefits for the whole North West region. This commitment to the surrounding communities will act as a new roadmap, allowing us to position the region as a centre of excellence in the fields of engineering and life sciences. And the relationship between the third level sectors will be critical to driving forward the ambitious plans here in Dungloe.

“I would like to acknowledge the great spirit of co-operation between Randox and Udarus na Gaeltacht and I know this partnership will go from strength to strength as this development expands over the coming years. I also want to commend Udarus for their dedication to job creation over a number of difficult years and I intend to do all I can to help support this essential work.

“This is a very good day for Randox and an equally good day for County Donegal. I had an opportunity a fortnight ago to reach out to our diaspora in Boston and inform them that there are opportunities in Dungloe in the field of engineering and life sciences. Too many of our young people have had to emigrate over the past number of years. With that in mind I would like to congratulate all involved who are trying to reverse that trend.”
