The young Kilcar player topped off a great year by picking up his award this evening.

He was chosen by the members of the Gaelic Players Association.

McHugh beat off stiff competition to receive his award from chairman of the GPA Dessie Farrell.

He was joined at the glamorous function at Dublin’s National Convention Centre by members of his family.

“I’m delighted to get it – it was a disappointing end but looking back we won Ulster and I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me.

“Jim has left the legacy and it’s all about winning now and we think we need to be aiming for success.

“I cant wait get back to training. The county board have a big task in filling Jim’s shoes,” he added.

James O’Donoghue received the Player of the Year Award beating Donegal’s Neil McGee.

Donegal’s Michael Murphy, Paul Durcan, Neil Gallagher and Neil McGee all picked up their All-Star awards.
