The well-known and highly respected Cuddihy family from Carndonagh issued a statement through Gardai.

In it they thanked everyone who has helped them since the deaths of their relatives Jimmy and Maureen Cuddity who were found dead at the home in Churchtown on Thursday morning last

The couple’s remains left the Chapel of Eternal Light at Mountaintop, LettErkenny this evening.

The statement said “The Family thank An Garda Síochána, medical and other personnel, neighbours, friends and the local community for their support and sensitivity at this most difficult time,” the statement said.

“They ask that they, their extended family and the local community be allowed to observe local traditions without media intrusion to enable them to honour Jimmy and Kathleen with dignity in the coming days,” the statement added.

“The family will not be releasing any further statement at this time.”

Two hearses took the couple to their son James’ home in Carndonagh this evening before they are buried after funeral mass on Tuesday.

Meanwhile the couple’s other son Julian, 42, will appear at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court on Wednesday charged with his parents’ murders.
