RED HUGHS GAA NOTESred hughs

Senior Ladies

The ladies had a fantastic victory over Malin today in the play off for a league final spot. The game was played in Muff in very stormy conditions that both teams found hard to get to grips with.

The Malin ladies opened the scoring after 5 minutes. The Red Hughs girls then got a lucky break when a long range effort from Elaine Melaugh dropped over the Malin keepers head into the net. It gave the girls the boost they needed and they took off from there. The Reds added 5 unanswered points before Malin got their second point of the game and the last score of the first half. Half time score Red Hughs 1-5 Malin 0-2

The second half seen the Malin girls come out fighting in the second half. The Reds defence was under extreme pressure with wave after wave of attack. Malin had most of the possession but were struggling to take advantage in front of goal. With ten minutes to go a high ball from Malin rebounded back off the upright and fell kindly to Malins corner forward who blasted the ball to net. Malin were looking like they were going to complete the comeback until the Red Hughs girls nerves were settled with another fine point from Elaine Melaugh. The Reds defence soaked up a lot of pressure in the final minutes and held on for a great victory. The Final score was Red Hughs 1-6 Malin 1-2

Well done to Benji, Marie, Kathy and all the girls.
