THERE are celebrations in Glencolmcille today – one of its famous sons has won a seat in the US Congress.

Brendan Boyle, whose dad Frank left Donegal for a new life in Pennsylvania in 1970, was one of the Democratic Party success stories last night.

He even had his nomination backed by President Obama (see video) in recent days.

Boyle has defeated Republican Carson Dee Adcock for an open congressional seat in suburban Philadelphia.

The three-term State representative from Philadelphia topped the Montgomery County businessman on Tuesday night for the seat in Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District.
