Buncrana GAA Notes for Week Ending Sunday 11th November 2014
Senior Football
They might have lost the Intermediate final but it was a fantastic achievement by our Seniors to get there especially after the disappointment of last year in dropping down a league. They gave it their all in O’Donnell Park on Saturday but just came up against a stronger, more experienced unit. Congratulations to Cloughaneely on winning and for displaying good sportsmanship throughout. This is a young Buncrana team and they will have learned from this experience and better days will surely lie ahead. Well done to all the panel and management team.

Leadon Timber Framed Ulster Minor Hurling Tournament 2014
History was made in Ballinascreen on Sunday when a young Buncrana Minor side accounted for Lisbellaw in the final of the Ulster Minor Shield played in ideal conditions and in front of their loyal band of supporters.
The occasion seemed to get the better of the Scarvey boys who were unusually slow to start and went in at halftime 3 points down.
The dressing room was not the place for the faint hearted! The management knew the boys were capable of much better and by God did they deliver. Sam Doherty collected the ball in his own half, took on 5 or 6 Lisbellaw players and hammered the ball to the back of the net. Buncrana took the lead and were never behind again, winning on a score line of 2:13 to 3:6.
The squad to a man rose to the occasion and as always were a credit to their parent’s, club and themselves.
Buncrana now play Down Minor Champions Liatroim next Sunday. We are the first Donegal side ever to reach this exalted level and these boys, most of whom are dual players, qualify to play again next year. Incredibly, out of the match day squad of 21 players only the team captain, Jack O’Loughlin, is over age next year.
What a year this squad have had! We will enjoy next Sunday with another milestone reached in our clubs short but fruitful hurling life.
