IRISH WATER: PRINGLE – “WATER CONSERVATION CLAIM OUSTED”

Deputy Thomas PringleIndependent TD Thomas Pringle has today reacted to the finding by the Commission for Energy Regulation (ComReg) that water meters will save only 6% of water.

Pringles believes that this clarifies beyond all doubt the real motivations behind Irish Water.

Pringle told Donegal Daily, “This has proven beyond all doubt that, as we have always known, Irish Water is nothing more than another money-making machine introduced by this government.

“This finding, from a survey which Irish Water itself undertook, shows that the consumption of water with metering will save just 22 litres a day, which is the same as one dishwater cycle.

“An average household of two adults and two children are expected to use 137,100 litres per year, reducing to 129,000 with a meter.

“For this minimal saving the installation of meters will cost €539 million over the next two years, and we all know who will be footing the bill on that one.

“Irish Water’s only concern is about making money.

“If this government thinks throwing out a few concessions for what is a fundamentally flawed body and an unjust charge will keep the people quiet, then they’re quite mistaken.
