GOLF NEWS: DUNFANAGHY FACE PORTSALON IN GAELTACHT LEAGUE

GOLF LOGODunfanaghy Golf Club Notes:

It was summer conditions in Dunfanaghy last weekend and the course was in great condition considering the amount of rain we have had of late.

And it was great to see so many golfers on the course over the weekend. Everyone enjoyed playing in the Annual Bernard Hanlon memorial 3 club challenge. I would say judging by the results that some of the golfers in the club carry too many clubs when they are playing normal rounds of golf.

Our Gaeltacht League team was at home against Clochaneely last Saturday. It was not a great result for the home team and we will need better results going forward if we are to qualify for the final. The next match is away to Portsalon on the 6th of December.

We are started sociable evenings on the Friday evenings in the clubhouse again. The clubhouse will open from 5pm from this Friday onwards. There will be free bites for anyone that comes to the clubhouse on the Friday evenings. What better way to start the weekend. Remember the Ireland v Australia rugby game is on this Saturday evening. There will be a great atmosphere in the clubhouse for the match. There is a menu in place on Saturday and Sunday in the clubhouse.

The Winter Open 4BBB competition has started on the 1st of October. This competition is a great format because you can play any day of the week, with whoever you want and as many times as you want until you qualify. There are four monthly winners each month who go forward to the Grand Final on the 21st of June 2014. The first three pairs qualify automatically and then the fourth pair will be the best recorded score by a 4BBB made up of club members each month. The 4BBB can be any combination and it would be great to see mixed pairs taking part as a follow on from the great competition ran by John and Cheryl Chambers this summer. All details of the competition can be seen on posters displayed in the clubhouse.

Such motions will be posted on the Club notice board for eight days before the AGM. Juvenile Notes;

The juveniles were treated to a beautiful Autumn morning last Saturday and once again some great golf was played with Conor Hanna leading the way from Max Roarty. In the Cadet section it was the Andy Ward show as he swept to victory thanks to a great putting display and in the process also secured the “Shot of the Day” with a great hole out on the 16th, this shot is no doubt a strong contender for the “Shot of the Year”.
