Thomas McCauley of 34 Glendale Drive, Letterkenny broke into Tiger Lilly flower shop in Letterkenny on June 20th last.

As well as causing €150 worth of damage, the 23 year old stole €50 in cash and also stole the cash register which was never recovered.

The court heard how McCauley had 18 different convictions – with most of them for public order offenses.

Solicitor for the accused, Kieran O’Gorman, told Letterkenny District Court, that all McCauley’s problems stemmed from his addiction to alcohol.

He described it as a “silly escapade” and revealed that he had been apprehended quickly and was with another party during the burglary.

He said he had €200 in court to pay as compensation to the victim.

Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case for a probation report until January 26th and asked for a receipt from the injured party.
