WORK is set to begin on upgrading a section of road where two people have died in road traffic accidents.

Phase One of the Blackburn Bridge Realignment Scheme on the N15 is long overdue, said Cllr Patrick McGowan.

The bridge is 2kms south of Ballybofey on the route between the twin towns and the Gap.

“I have have been pushing for this accident black spot to upgraded for a long time now,” said Cllr McGowan.

“Two fatal accidents linked to the substandard alignment have occurred on this section in the last 10 years. The length of the section is 2.5 km.”

The proposed scheme will involve widening and realignment to Standard Single Carriageway, a new bridge structure to cross the Burn Daurnett river is included, he said.
