Donegal Daily has been named the FOURTH most popular Irish news website in the entire country by search engine Google.

Google named Donegal Daily as the fifth most sought-after news website in the country.

Google named Donegal Daily as the fifth most sought-after news website in the country.

We have come in just behind the national news organisations The Irish Independent, RTE and The Irish Times.

The UK Daily Mail came first – with Donegal Daily in fifth place, ahead of the journal.ie, newstalk, breaking news and the Irish Sun and Irish Mirror.

The figures were released by the global search engine giant and confirms our growing audience.

Google statistics also showed almost four million page views on Donegal Daily last month as our audience continues to grow.

Donegal Daily Editor Stephen Maguire said the result is recognition of the hard-work put in by the staff of the site but also the loyalty of its local readership.

“We started off four years ago with an idea of sharing local news with local people on a daily and hourly basis,” he said.

“Now we have amassed a large and very loyal audience and that is reflected in this amazing news that we are the fifth most googled news website in the country and the fourth most popular Irish news site.

“This recognition goes to anyone who sends in pictures or local notes to Donegal Daily week-in, week-out. This is their website and we try to squeeze in as much local news as we can each day,” he said.

Stephen added that Donegal Daily have new plans for 2015 which will hopefully see it grow even further.

“We have some exciting plans in the pipeline which will bring even more news and fun to Donegal readers at home and abroad.

“We would also like to thank our loyal advertisers who we know are seeing the benefit of online advertising returning through their own businesses,” he added.
