The staff team at Donegal County Childcare breathed a huge sigh of relief this week on managing to successfully reach what three weeks ago they thought was an unreachable target for requests to the Presents for Percy Appeal.
The team at DCCC have managed to collect a staggering €25,000 and have placed somewhere in the region of €3,000 worth of toy donations for children of all ages across the county.
To put this into context in terms of numbers, the appeal has supported over 530 families to facilitate the Santa requests of approximately 1,300 children.
All families live in Donegal and the appeal has responded to requests in all parts of the county from Inis Eoghain to Killybegs and everywhere in between.
Avril McMonagle, Manager of Donegal County Childcare said just three weeks ago she couldn’t see how they were going to meet the requests made to the appeal.
“Following the support of the Donegal media to promote the appeal, we are absolutely delighted with the response and the final amount raised. I would like to thank each and every person who got in touch to lend their support, who made a donation, purchased vouchers, organised collections, raffles and fundraisers. We also received many large donations from local business people – some of which were anonymous. We greatly appreciate the collective effort and generosity of everyone who helped’.
Avril concluded ‘the generosity of spirit shown by young and old across Donegal has been humbling. Together we have ensured 1,300 smiles this coming Christmas morning and a childhood memory that will be retained for years to come’.
