Donegal North East TD, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has written to the managers and owners of all hotels across Donegal North East seeking their views on the development of tourism in the county and to establish what diificulties or challenges their business is facing.
His initiative follows recent news that two more hotels in the county are facing closure or receivership.
The Sinn Féin Deputy said, “Our hotels across this county are vital to our local economies and to our tourism offering. Therefore the loss of any hotel is a real blow.
“I am inviting the managers and owners of hotels in my constituency to outline to me the needs of their hotel business and their observations on tourism in this county.
Particular questions that I would have are:
What are their thoughts on the Wild Atlantic Way initiative from Fáilte Ireland? Have they noticed an upturn in tourists visiting their hotel due to the initiative?
What could Fáilte Ireland, Donegal County Council or the Government improve upon to attract tourists to the county and to their hotel business?
What could be done to reasonably reduce their costs as a business?
What special interventions could be made by Fáilte Ireland, Donegal County Council or the Government to assist their hotel business?
The responses I receive will inform a detailed submission I will then pass on to Fáilte Ireland, Donegal County Council and the Minister for Tourism, Paschal Donohue.
