With only a matter of weeks now to go, excitement is building in the greater Raphoe area as the 50th celebrations draw closer at Deele College and tickets for the school show and celebration dinner dance have finally gone on sale.
The school, formerly Raphoe Technical/Vocational School has planned a host of events to mark the 50th anniversary on the weekend of March 13 and March 14, ending with an amazing 50th celebration dance featuring the Beefsteak Dancers.
Principal Joe Boyle said, “Demand for the tickets for the dance is already huge and as a result our initial plans to host the dance in the school gymnasium had to be shelved, but we’re delighted to have secured the Mount Errigal Hotel as a venue and with the Beefsteak Dancers lined up to provide the music we’re certain the dinner dance be a fantastic night.
Tickets for the dance and the school show on Thursday 12th March are now available from the school, but they are just two of the events lined up to mark a special weekend.
Boyle added, “We are really fortunate to have so many really talented students at Deele College and it is only right that they get to showcase their talents as part of the anniversary celebrations.
“The Thursday night show will kick off what we hope will be three memorable days for the school.
Plans for the Friday are centred around ensuring the current student body is an integral part of the celebrations, before things once again open to the wider public on Saturday 14th March when a whole host of activities have been penciled in.
“The Saturday is a day of celebration at the school and we are hoping that as many former students as possible and indeed members of the wider public will come along to join in the fun.
Among the events being planned that day include a family fun walk and run, a fun family open day at the school, an anniversary publication, a school legends football match and all ending with the dance on the Saturday night where it is hoped many former school pals and their teachers will get a chance to catch up and reminisce.
Boyle concluded, “It will be a special day, we’re hoping to have as many people as possible come along to visit the school, look at the displays and old photographs and really take a walk down memory lane during the family fun day when we will have activities for children, before the celebrations come to a close at the dance.
“We have had a great response from students, staff and former students and staff to the celebrations so far and we want this weekend to be a huge reunion but also a celebration of the school’s 50 years in the community.
Tickets for the dance and show are now on sale and people can also keep up to date on the events on the Facebook Page – https://www.facebook.com/DeeleCollege50,”
