Micheál Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig has called Sinn Féin councillor Jack Murray to cut out the bluffing regarding water charges.
Mac Giolla Easbuig made the claim after County Manager Seamus Neely confirmed that Donegal County Council will now hand over housing tenants details to Irish Water.
Mac Giolla Easbuig said, “I was accused of ‘scare-mongering’ and ‘jumping the gun’ by Councillor Murray last November when I said the Council would be compelled to hand over tenants’ details.
“Councillor Murray instead preferred to bluff tenants that this would not happen,” he said. “The handing over of tenants’ details is an invasion of privacy and I am completely opposed to it, but it is now going to happen just as I predicted.
“I believe in telling people the truth even when it is unpalatable. Councillor Murray prefers bluff.
“He was bluffing the people when he said he could prevent this happening and he is bluffing the people when he refuses to back our boycott of water charges.
“Those who are genuinely opposing water charges are working hard to build a campaign of non-payment of Irish Water’s bills when they start to go out in April.
“Councillor Murray, in common with every single Sinn Fein councillor and TD in the state, is refusing to support our boycott.
“I think he and his colleagues would better serve the people by stopping the bluffing and backing the boycott.”
