Padraig Mac Lochlainn TD has expressed his disappointment at a decision by the Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald not to support calls to for the regularisation of migrants and instead to continue regularising on a case by case basis.
The Donegal Deputy said the news will have a detrimental impact on thousands of undocumented migrants in Ireland.
Speaking today the Donegal TD said “Minister Fitzgerald has confirmed to me that the government has no plans to support calls for the regularisation of migrants.
“This is a disappointing decision that will have a massively detrimental impact on thousands of undocumented migrants in Ireland.
“Recently the Migrant Right’s Centre presented to the Justice Committee in Leinster House setting out their very reasonable proposals aimed at achieving the regularisation of migrants.
“Sinn Féin endorses these proposals and calls on the Minister to reconsider them. Given her government’s support for Irish emigrants in the United States it would seem only fitting that the same would apply for migrants here.”
