Are you thinking of playing golf? Would you like to see and hear what it’s all about first? Then come along to the Letterkenny Golf Club “Golf Awareness Day” at Letterkenny Shopping Centre on this coming Friday, 17th April.
Where you can chat to our club GUI Professional Seamus Clinton, Captain Gerard Duffy, Lady Captain Margo Birmingham, club officers and regular club members on the golfing and social aspects of the biggest growing sport over the past ten years.
Also in attendance will be Rory Leonard, GUI Golf Development Officer, who is behind the 2015 Golf Initiative in Ireland.
The Awareness Day is open to people of all ages, men, ladies and kids. There will be a practice net available to try a few shots, [clubs included], and a “putting green” to try your skills. There will also be “fun” competitions for driving and putting with prizes galore. Club Captain Gerard Duffy explains, “we had already taken the initiative four years ago to take golf to the kids. We visited schools, youth clubs etc., spoke to the different age groups, boys and girls, and our junior membership in Letterkenny Golf Club grew from twenty kids to one hundred and seventy five! There is nothing juvenile about commitment to youth at Letterkenny Golf Club” says Gerard. “Some golf clubs do not welcome junior members at all and others just tolerate them but Letterkenny Golf Club is different. We want the Juniors, they are the future of our club.
That is why we are now taking golf to the “older” age group, 25-50year olds, those who are ready to try a sport less strenuous than most but yet maintain or broaden their social environment”
So, if you’re that person who is looking for something new or different to keep you in good health or to occupy your spare time or weekends, call in and see us at Letterkenny Shopping Centre on Friday.Tags:
