The residents of the Loughside Community will be out in force on Saturday 25th April 2015 with a massive cleanup operation taking place in the townlands between Ramelton and Letterkenny.
Over 100 residents are expected to take to the roads and streets of the Loughside to clear the area of rubbish and litter.
Loughside residents will meet at a number of prearranged meeting points at 10:30am and townland area coordinators will manage the clean up in their respective Townland areas.
The residents will spend two hours lifting rubbish and litter throughout their townlands before meeting in the Silver Tassie at 1pm for a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits, kindly sponsored by the Ciaran and Rose Blaney. The collection equipment, bags, gloves and high viz vests will be provided by Donegal County Council.
Secretary of the Loughside Community Donal Casey said “This is the second year of the Loughside Community and our second Area Clean Up day. Last year we have over 100 people lifting rubbish in the area and filled a skip kindly provided by Donegal County Council”.
“We have almost 500 residents registered with the Loughside Community and are expecting a big crowd out again on Saturday. As well as being good for the local environment, we hope to see families and young people come out and join in this community event.”
And he added “It is important that young people learn about the value of residents of local communities working together”. “We’ll all meet up for a cup of tea afterwards and talk a load of rubbish, pardon the pun”, says Donal.
Donal would like to thank Martin Roarty and Suzanne Bogan and the Waste Department of Donegal County Council for the support and the Silver Tassie for providing the tea coffee and biscuits, on behalf of the Loughside Community.
