Up to 500 Donegal students are to attempt to break the World Record for hula hooping!
The challenge will take at Letterkenny Institute of Technology on May 1st next.
The Hula Hoopathon is being undertaken by 4th year sports students from the LYIT who have undertaken a project to promote health within primary schools in our local area.
They have gained help from a number of local primary school students who will help make up the 500 students needed to Hula Hoop for five minutes.
The record of 407 is currently held by a school in California.
One of the organisers, LYIT student Ciaran McBride, said they are confident they can smash the record.
“We’re certainly hoping to have the numbers on the day. We have a dance routine set up and all is going to plan.
“Once we get it done, we will video it and then send off the video to the Guinness World Book of Records for them to judge it,” he said.
The world record attempt will take place on the 1st of May here at the LYIT’s sports complex at 11.00am with former Olympic runner Danny McDaid agreeing to be the official time-keeper.
