A local Facebook page that caused disgust amongst the Donegal public has finally been deactivated following an online campaign.
The news has been met with delight by those who were left horrified by the campaign of hate initiated by the vile TROLLS.
The popular Letterkenny Buy and Sell page was hijacked by TROLLS who posted a string of offensive and abhorrent material on the page.
A picture of an aborted foetus and a doll which the TROLLS claimed had spina bifida were just some of the horrendous content published by the throlls.
However, there was an even more sinister reason for their appalling behaviour.
The TROLLS were hoping to engage with the other users who were outraged at their posts in an attempt to gain access to their personal Facebook accounts in an attempt to retrieve their personal details.
The moderator of the Letterkenny Buy and Sell page had been blocked out of accessing the page so he was unable to delete any of the content posted by the TROLLS.
He was forced to set up a new page and anyone wanting to join the new page has to send a request in order to gain access.
It is hoped this will alleviate the issue of trolling as the moderator can spot bogus accounts before allowing them access to the site.
Donegal Disability campaigner Frank Larkin was so disgusted by the response he got from Facebook regarding the page that he considered deleting his social media account.
Larkin issued a complaint to Facebook regarding the page and was stunned when he received a response back from Facebook officials who claimed the page didn’t breach community standards.
Instead of deleting his account Frank set up a petition entitled ‘Deal appropriately with hate speech and images online relating to disability.’
Frank engaged with his followers on Facebook in an attempt to both highlight the situation and to force Facebook to do more in relation to such instances.
The petition has been met with an incredible reaction with close to 1,000 already signing Frank’s petition.
