Rathmullan business owners have been left shocked after the beachside village lost its Green Flag status.
An Taisce announced this afternoon that the seaside village has lost its status because of the quality of its bathing water.
Overall Donegal still maintains the highest number of Blue and Green flags, 13 blue and five green accreditations.
Blue Flags will continue to fly in Downings, Bundoran, Fintra, Rossnowlagh, Carrickfin, Culdaff, Fintra, Killahoey, Marble Hill, Lisfannon, Murvagh, Narin, Magherawarden and Shroove.
Green Flags are awarded to areas which don’t have the amenities for Blue Flags, but have excellent bathing quality.
Donegal’s five green flag beaches are now located at Dooey Beach, Magheraroarty, Port Arthur, Ballyhernan and Drumnatinney.
