Two Donegal-based nurses are behind an APP which it is hoped will reduce cancer.
Stopcancer.support is a new interactive web based application full of information, video clips, quizzes and links to organisations on how to help reduce your risk of developing cancer by modifying some lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, weight, smoking, alcohol, and sun exposure.
It includes results of a survey carried out in Donegal and Dublin last year asking people what they knew about their lifestyle risk factors for developing cancer.
By following the advice in this online app you can reduce your risk of developing cancer by around 30%.
The web based app was developed by two experienced Cancer Care & Research Nurses in Letterkenny General Hospital (LGH) – Janice Richmond and Mary Grace Kelly following a year of intensive research and aided by Sendmode who designed the software around this application who are based in Co-Lab in Letterkenny IT.
This app is the first of its kind and also reaches out also to the many people who have suffered from cancer in the past in terms of reducing risk of cancer reoccurrence.
This very valuable and informative research project was been funded by the Health Research Board (€20,000) to raise awareness about lifestyle modifications to assist to inform us and thus reduce the incidence of cancer.
