Fianna Fáil TD for Donegal Charlie McConalogue has called on the Tourism Minister and Failte Ireland to work together to secure funding to develop tourism facilities at Malin Head.

Deputy McConalogue raised the issue with Minister Paschal Donohoe in the Dáil after Donegal County Council approved planning permission for car parking and toilet facilities.
Following his exchange with the Minister, Deputy McConalogue commented, “I welcome the fact that Minister Donohoe has stated his support for improving the facilities at Malin Head, but what we need now is action.
“The Minister must work with Fáilte Ireland so that funding for these improvement works can be secured.
“Malin Head has is unable to offer tourists visiting the area the facilities that they expect and it is imperative that the Minister along with other interest groups now work together to ensure that Malin Head is developed as a top tourist attraction.
“Tourism is a vital revenue source for the Inishowen peninsula and stalling on these essential facilities is not an option.
“The Wild Atlantic Way has been a fantastic success to date and is only going to increase the number of tourists coming to the area over the next few years and we cannot have a situation where Malin Head is left behind due to the fact it doesn’t have basic facilities.
“We already have 100,000 people visiting Malin Head. This number is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what we could be bringing to the area.
“It is vital that the Minister ensures that Malin Head receives funding without delay so that it can reach its potential in becoming a cornerstone of our vibrant tourism industry.
“I will continue to work with the local Malin Head community and Councillor Martin McDermott to advance this important project.”
