DONEGAL’S Senior Ladies footballers go into today’s Ulster senior final against Monaghan in Clones hoping to upset the odds.
Monaghan have contested every senior ladies final in Ulster for the past 16 years and have won five of the last seven Championships.
But this group of Donegal players is amongst the best assembled in years and they hope they can go one better than the men at the same venue did against the same county last week.
This generation of Donegal players is also the result of a decade and more of development and club level.
So it’s fitting that this particular group is working today towards a first senior Ulster title for Donegal.
Davy McLaughlin’s players have worked their socks off all year; in fact for 16 months since he took charge.
He has been telling them this week that they need to play football and forget it’s a final.
“Once that ball is thrown in, it’s all about the game,” he said.
“We’re not going to Clones to make up the numbers.”
Numbers could be important – throw-in is at 3.15pm – so get there in numbers today and support the girls.
