Fianna Fail Senator Brian O Domhnaill has said he will NOT contest the general election despite being encouraged to by party members.
The Gortahork-based politician released a statement today saying he will be concentrating on his career in Seanad Eireann instead.
Senator O Domhnaill said he had considered the issue over the summer months after being approached by a number of party representatives.
His decision now looks likely to leave October’s election convention a three horse race between Pat The Cope Gallagher, sitting TD Charlie McConalogue and Councillor James Pat McDaid.
Senator O Domhnaill said “In recent weeks, I have been strongly encouraged by party membership in Donegal to seek a nomination to contest the next the General Election.
“However dispute this, a nomination will not be sought, and instead, I will pledge all my time and energy, on my work in Seanad Eireann.”.Tags:
