DONEGAL festivals are to get €125,000 in funding this year.
Sea Sessions and the Rory Gallagher Festival are the big winners from the announcement, getting more than the Earagail Arts Festival.
Fine Gael Minister Joe McHugh welcomed the funding.
“Each of these events has significant international appeal and will take place during 2016,” said McHugh.
“Under this funding, Donegal will receive €125,000 under the programme. Sea Sessions and Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival are each to receive €40,000; Earagail Arts Festival will receive €35,000 and the Donegal Rally will receive €10,000.
“These festivals which take place each year in Donegal are a key event and an incredible amount of work goes in to the organisation and production of each festival. It is an opportunity for communities to come together and an important date in the calendar each year. This funding will hopefully play a significant role in ensuring the events continue this year, creating additional tourism, spending in the local areas and an opportunity for people to see more of what Donegal has to offer.”
