Fine Gael has agreed to add four female candidates to its general election ticket to ensure it meets gender quotas – one of them from Co Donegal.

The Irish Times today reports that the party’s executive council also agreed to add two more female candidates in Cork North Central and Donegal.

However it is understood these candidates have not yet been chosen.

It had been thought that Letterkenny man Paddy Harte, son of former TD Paddy Harte Snr, was favourite to run alongside sitting TD Joe McHugh.

But it now appears that may now be up in the air.

Harte was due to meet with Fine Gael bosses on Saturday to discuss a possible nomination.
