U16 Blaze boys win the battle against Queens BC
Blaze under 16 boys were at home against Queens Belfast. After two tough losses last week the lads were keen to break the streak. The game got off to a slow start with low scoring first and second quarters. Queens took the lead with some neat passing in between the Blaze zone. The Blaze boys tightened things up on defense and began to frustrate the Belfast boys. The first quarter ended with Queens leading by 2 points. Into the second quarter and Blaze began to move the ball better on offense which resulted in a spread of scores from a number of players and Blaze took the lead. Blaze led by 4 at the half. In the third quarter Blaze stepped up their defense which led to turnovers by Queens and some fast break points for blaze. Blaze began to open a gap between them and Queens and were leading by 11 points at one stage. Queens remained true to their form and never gave up. They started to chip away at Blaze lead through some excellent fast breaks and shooting. However the Letterkenny lads kept their nerve and ran out deserved winners in the end. Blaze won by 4 with a final score 43 – 39.
U12 Boys gain vital experience in Dungloe
The Blaze U12 boys Demons squad participated in a Development blitz on Sunday 17th Jan hosted by Dungloe in Rosses Community School, Dungloe. They played Dungloe in the first game of the day and had a great win with the final score 12-8 to Blaze. All the boys played well and were complemented by the referee for their technical skills and sportsmanship. They played Mulroy Hoops in the final match of the day and worked hard for the first 2 quarters keeping the scoreboard very balanced. The third quarter saw Mulroy take a strong lead with the final game ending 22 – 8. The coaches were very proud of the whole squad with excellent team-play and strong commitment from everyone throughout both games.
Elsewhere there were wins for our U14 boys and U14 girls against Kilcar BC. Blackwater Steelers provided tough competition at home on Saturday where our U18 girls and U14 boys were unlucky to come away with losses. Under 12 girls hosted their league blitz for North West. Three teams took part in what was a very successful day.
