WEATHER ALERTBREAKING NEWS:  Met Eireann has issued a STATUS ORANGE wind warning for Donegal for tonight and tomorrow, with snow being forecast for the county on Friday evening.

Met Eireann says it will be xtremely windy or stormy tonight, with the southwest winds increasing strong to gale force and with some damaging gusts in places, especially in coastal areas of Donegal.

The winds will veer more westerly before dawn. The rain will be patchy and scattered early on, but will become heavy and possibly thundery for a time, before clearing around dawn. Lowest temperatures 4 to 8 C are expected.

The Wind Warning is for Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Longford, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford.

Met Eireann says the Southwest winds later veering westerly will increase 65 to 80 km/h overnight and will gust 110 to 130 km/h at times. The strongest winds mainly in northern and western coastal areas.

The warning is valid from midnight tonight until Friday at 09:00.

Met Eireann says heavy rain on Friday evening will turn to snow at times in Donegal, especially on higher ground.

There is also the possibility of thunder storms.
